It's one of those books that I wasn't hugely impressed by the first time I read it, but which has since grown on me. Oddly, I think it's the world and the trappings that I remember the most, which is a change from a lot of other DWJ books where it's the characters that I remember and love the most.
Charmain has grown on me, too. Mostly, I wish the book was longer, that we got to spend more time with Uncle William and apprenticeships and hijinxs with that, because you know there would be some. Usually I don't feel any need to write DWJ fanfiction because I don't see the point in messing with perfection, but for this one, I want to write snapshots of other goings-on in these people's lives. I'll bet Uncle William and Charmain will get along pretty well as they geek out about books.

My judgement on first read was, "B+ DWJ = A+ almost anyone else."
